8 Alameda Schools Named to 2013 California Business for Education Excellence Honor Roll

Six of the eight were recognized as "Scholar Schools"

California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) has named eight AUSD schools “2013 CBEE Honor Roll Schools.” Those schools are being recognized for demonstrating consistently high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement over time, and reduction in achievement gaps.

“After an extensive analysis of student achievement data for every public school in California, these schools stood well above the rest in raising their students to grade-level proficiency and beyond,” an announcement letter sent to the district office reads. “Their success stories will provide hope and direction for many other public schools – that all students can reach high levels of academic achievement.”

The eight AUSD schools named to the Honor Roll are:

  • Amelia Earhart Elementary
  • Bay Farm Elementary
  • Donald D. Lum Elementary
  • Edison Elementary
  • Frank Otis Elementary
  • Franklin Elementary
  • Lincoln Middle School
  • Alameda Science and Technology Institute
Of those eight, the CBEE designated six as “Scholar Schools,” or high-performing schools that do not have “significant levels” of low-income students. ASTI was named a “STEM School” because of it has a higher-than-average number of low-income students and its high performance in math and science. Lum Elementary was designated a “Star School,” as it has a significant number of low-income students, but is also high performing and closing the achievement gap, according to the organization.

Alameda Community Learning Center, a charter school here in Alameda, was also named to the honor roll as a “Scholar School.”

Each school will receive a full-sized banner to announce their designation.
