The Alameda County Board of Education has named Ken Berrick as its president.
Berrick’s appointment was made during the board’s July 12 annual re-organization meeting, according to a press release issued Monday.
Berrick has served on the county board since 2008, representing area 3, which includes various parts of Oakland. He is the founder and chief executive officer of Seneca Center, a nonprofit that provides a variety of services for children with serious emotional problems and their families.

About a dozen Seneca Center locations are in the Bay Area.
Berrick also serves as president-elect of the California County Boards of Education and serves as chair of the Legislative Committee.

Also at the meeting, trustee Yvonne Cerrato was named vice president of the board. She has served on the board since 2002, and holds a multiple subject elementary school teacher credential.
