Alameda Family Featured in NPR Report on Student Stress

Has pressure for teenagers to achieve academically gone too far? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Nora Huynh of Alameda is one of the high school students highlighted today (Monday) in an NPR (National Public Radio) news report on how pressure to achieve academically is affecting teens.

"It breaks my heart to see her upset when she's doing so awesome and going above and beyond," Nora's mother, Jennie Huynh, told NPR. She said Nora was devastated by a report card that didn't show a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Nora isn't alone. College-bound teens around the country are stressed and even suffering health problems as they add more and more honors and AP (Advanced Placement) courses to their school schedule, NPR reports.

The report includes some tips to help teens cope — from getting an early start on homework projects to cutting back on extracurricular activities, or even dropping an especially demanding class.
