Alameda Little League Game Reports Through May 15

Parker and Sears Orthodontics Mudcats, 11 vs. La Estrellita Cafe & Bar Shay Cafe Hooks,10: A slugger fest occurred May 9 between the Mudcats and Hooks. Mudcats’ Chioke Armstrong Malloy contributed with three hits, Dean Sarmiento, Ethan Karp and Sandeep Mahl each had two. Jacob Williams made a pivotal outfield catch to stop a Hooks rally. Hooks’ Brendan Gill hit one that hopped off the fence and cleared the bags in the 6th. Julian Sazo had two hits along with Jackson Ball’s two triples one that scored the tying run in the 6th.

Harvest Food Products Storm, 8 vs. Law Offices of Robert Bezewik Thunder, 6: On Saturday, May 14, the Thunder's Keelan Good tripled in the 4th, adding two RBI's to his record. Omari Preston doubled in the 6th to add two RBI's and help close the gap of the Storm's 5 run lead. Dallas Rider's pitching was lights out, striking out all 6 hitters he faced in the 2nd and 3rd innings.

The Storm's Kyle Arndt singled in 1 RBI, and Kobe Kiener doubled in 2 RBI's both in the 5th inning. Nicholas Stermer caught a pop fly to finish an inning, preventing key runs from scoring and holding the Thunder behind for the entire game. 

YSF Printing Rock Hounds, 14 vs. Staytooned Entertainment Mud Hens, 2: On May 10, six Rock Hound pitchers combined to three-hit the Mud Hens, avenging a loss to them earlier in the season. Sam Silberstein put on an impressive hitting display for the victors, and Andrew Tandoc and Mark Makishima made all-star caliber defensive plays for the visiting team in the win.  For the Mud Hens, Mike Harris and Sam Walther reached base twice, stealing six bases between them.Nolan Harris pitched a shut out inning in the loss, needing only 12 pitches to do so.

Fruitti Yogi Muckdogs, 10 vs. El Caballo Wraps Rattlers, 5: Jacob Price and Dima Gilchrist went 3 for 3 and scored two runs each to lead the Muckdogs on May 14 while Michelangelo Alessio hit his first double. Price caught a fly ball and then teamed with Justin Odom to complete a double play. Odom later snagged two fly balls. For the Rattlers, Leo Miranda and Aaron Garcia hit doubles while Miranda caught a long fly ball to the outfield.Alex DeLao caught a foul ball while playing catcher.

MXL Commercial Construction Bats, 18 vs. Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Store at Alameda Scrappers, 4: On Friday the 13, the Bats lived up to their name with some great hitting. Cooper Boyle, Sam Davis, Brandon Gross, Dohnovan Gross and Sayge Morenz were all perfect at the plate. Also for the Bats, Jason Cenidoza and Harry Gleicher made key defensive plays.  Scrappers Michael Chun, Nolan Johnson, Lukas Mann and Sean MacKenzie reached base on all of their at-bats and Colin Wehmann made a stellar out at third base.

Vicki Wang, DDS Orthodontic Care Center IronBirds, 15 vs. The UPS Store Owlz, 11: On May 12th, the IronBirds victory was led by timely hits by Joshua Blackman, Austin Novoa, Dante Pardo, Addison McComas and Michael Shih.  Sam Yep made a great stab of a liner in right field to end an Owlz scoring attack while Scott Kelly lined a double to centerfield that plated a run. The Owlz were lead by Landon Marsh, Derek Balaian, Brandon Lim, and Daylan Tanner who all went 3-3, while Tommy Igo and Gabe Rubio went 2-3.  Derek Balaian made a great double play that would shut down an Iron Birds rally to end the 4th inning, but the Iron Birds rallied again in the 5th for the win. 

El Caballo Wrap Rattlers,15 vs. Encinal Market Blue Claws, 4: On May 11, the Rattlers Michael Proffitt and Robbie Ohno combined for 6 RBIs (3 RBIs each) while Felix Garcia was 3-3 and an RBI. The Rattlers offensively had 28 hits. In the field, Nick Yajko caught a line drive at shortstop and Devon Casias played great second base. For the BlueClaws, Dylan Corona and Sean Culberg-McClung played great defense while Jordan Alva's powerful arm covered the outfield and he had an RBI. 

El Caballo Wrap Rattlers,10 vs. Wiley Price & Radulovich, LLP Raptors, 9: Coming back from three runs down in bottom of 6th, Shamil Youngblood hit the winning run in with the bases loaded. Leo Miranda went 3-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Great glove work in the field by Devon Casias at second, Max Ponssa in left field and Aaron Garcia at pitcher. YTD as a team the Rattlers are batting .640 with a .778 slugging percentage.  For the Raptors, Riley McCarter and Nicholas Chow along with Justin Leung knocked in runs. Defensively, Becca Legerwey and Shamar Cook teamed up in the infield to make outs.

Alameda Beauty College Rangers vs. Maureen Shandobil’s Rockies: It was another exciting weekend for Rockies baseball highlighted by Nathan “Bam Bam” Jamarillo’s Home Run. Max Stento, Avery Steuer showed great hustle along with all their teammates on the base paths. Jack Johnston contributed a couple solid hits and Haileen Jamarillo had a frozen rope double up the middle. The Rockies defense continued to grow and featured Gordon Cunningham who tagged out a runner at home.  All the players played great defense and made smart throws.
