Help Students Make 2013-14 School Year a Success

In an effort to support 1,000 low-income Kindergarten through 12th grade students in Alameda as they prepare for the new school year, several local organizations have come together to ensure the success of each of them.

Equipped 4 Success is on a mission to collect supplies and funds to fill backpacks or, in the words of Girls Inc. Executive Director Karen Kenney, to see “1,000 smiling children returning to school.” The program is a collaborative between the Alameda Education Foundation; the Alameda Unified School District; the Alameda Point Collaborative; the Alameda Boys & Girls Club; Head Start; Girls Inc.; and the Alameda Collaborative for Children, Youth and Families.

Equipped for Success is collecting both school supplies and funds and many Alameda businesses and organizations are doing their part to help by hosting collection bins for school supply drop offs. Supplies will be distributed to low-income students served by the School District’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Program; the Alameda Point Collaborative, which serves formerly homeless families; the Alameda Boys & Girls Club; Head Start; and Girls Inc.
