From a Lincoln Middle School Band press release
Lincoln musicians star in Anaheim!
The Lincoln Middle School Band marched tall and proud as they led Mickey’s Sound Sensational Parade down Main Street at Disneyland on Friday, June 1.
The Lincoln Band was selected for this prestigious honor through an audition process starting back in February. Lincoln Advanced Band members worked extremely hard during the school year to prepare their music and perfect their marching technique for this grand marching performance! The Lincoln Band was awarded a beautiful plaque to commemorate their sterling Parade Performance at Disneyland!
The 90 members of the Lincoln Middle School Advanced Band, plus their director, Tyra Ingram Cable, and 12 parent chaperons, left Wednesday morning, May 30, on a four-day trip to Anaheim for musical performances at Disneyland and area elementary schools, Music in the Parks competition and fun at the theme parks.
After a long bus ride, the group checked in at the Holiday Inn Express Anaheim Maingate. Later that evening at dinner, the Lincoln music group consumed lots of pizza and enjoyed many rides and attractions at the Boomers Family Fun Center in Fountain Valley.
Thursday morning, the Lincoln musicians were "STARS" as they presented an early morning outdoor marching performance and concert for students and staff at Excelsior Elementary School in Garden Grove. The Excelsior students were the perfect hosts, providing the Lincoln band with a snack of juice and cookies.
Thursday afternoon the group traveled to Universal City, near Hollywood, to enjoy rides at Universal Studios and tour some of the sets where movies are made. On Thursday evening the Lincoln musicians and chaperons feasted at Medieval Dinner Theater and Tournament in Buena Park, and enjoyed a live jousting tournament featuring knights in full body armor on beautiful horses.
Bright and early Friday morning, the Lincoln Advanced Band presented another outdoor marching performance and concert for the students at Crosby Elementary School in Garden Grove. The Lincoln musicians enjoyed cookies and water provided by the Crosby PTA after their performance. Then the Lincoln Band was off to Disneyland, where students enjoyed the rides at the Disneyland Park both before and after their march in the Main Street Parade.
Saturday morning the Lincoln Advanced Band absolutely triumphed in the Anaheim Music In the Parks Festival competition! The Lincoln Band received two large trophies in recognition of their Music in the Parks successes.
The Lincoln Advanced Band earned the Superior rating from the adjudicators and were awarded the 1st Place Trophy in the Middle School AA Concert Division at the Anaheim Music In the Parks Festival. Because the Lincoln Advanced Band had the highest score of 91 points of all groups at the Festival, the band also was awarded the First Place Overall Best Concert Bank trophy for the entire festival.
The Lincoln Middle School Advanced Band is very proud of this award, which recognized the strong team effort and superior musical performance Lincoln music students successfully displayed and executed at the Music In The Parks competition.
The Lincoln musicians and chaperons spent the rest of the day enjoying the rides and attractions at California Adventure and Disneyland.
The parents and adults who generously gave of their time and assistance on this trip were Heather Rupp, Chris Long, Goldie Yip, Mimi Yee, Paul Bayard, Kimberly and Gordon Yee, Katrin Vetter, Dave Stebbins, Steven Fong, Sue Yajko and Ly Ly Choy. These chaperons helped make the Lincoln 2012 Music Trip a great success for the students.
