'Park on Patch' for Free Saturday in West Alameda, Park Street Business Districts

Parking will also be free on Black Friday, Nov. 29, and the four Saturdays in December, courtesy of the city's longstanding "meter holiday" program.

Patch's “Park on Patch” campaign, in partnership with American Express, has selected Alameda as one of 50 towns across the country to get free parking on Nov. 30 for Small Business Saturday.

The Alameda City Council last week enacted the 2013 “Meter Holiday” to provide free all-day parking at metered spaces for Park Street and West Alameda Business Districts on “Black Friday,” Nov. 29, and the four Saturdays in December.

Alameda Patch
, in partnership with American Express, will be picking up the tab for parking on the Park Street and Webster Street business districts on Saturday, Nov. 30, in support of small businesses in Alameda.

Since Alameda Patch is sponsoring free parking on Small Business Saturday, the city this year added free parking on "Black Friday," Nov. 29, to its traditional lineup of parking meter "holidays."

Although the meters will be free on these days, drivers should observe the hour limits so that others may share in the opportunity to park as well.

The "Park on Patch" initiative is part of an ongoing effort by Patch and American Express to encourage people to shop locally in support of small businesses.

Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is now in its fourth year. The annual event, which is celebrated between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is an awesome way to support the small businesses that help make our neighborhoods great.

According to the Small Business Saturday Insights Survey, consumers who were aware of Small Business Saturday in 2012 spent $5.5 billion with independently-owned businesses that day.
