Aboard the USS Hornet: A's Pitcher Sean Doolittle, WWII Pilot Jimmy Doolittle

Doolittle the pitcher learned about his cousin the pilot during a visit to the Alameda museum this week.

Oakland A's pitcher Sean Doolittle visited the USS Hornet Museum in Alameda this week and learned a bit about his seventh cousin, the celebrated World War II pilot James "Jimmy" Doolittle, according to an article by the Associated Press.

Doolittle the pilot, born in Alameda, led the first attack against the Japanese home islands after Pearl Harbor, the article says.

Doolittle the pitcher is a history buff from a military family who has been trying to trace his exact relationship to the aviation pioneer. His visit to the Alameda museum included viewing a map and photos of the historic World War II raid, the article says.
