Alameda 8U Blaze Wins Softball Tournament

The 33rd annual PAL Softball Tournament gave the 8U Blaze team its first championship.

By Keegan Andolsek

The temperatures were hot and so was the action at the 33rd Annual PAL Softball Tournament in Santa Clara this past weekend.

The Alameda 8U Blaze team came out firing on all cylinders, giving up only one run on the road to winning the championship at the two-day tournament.

Fans were treated to lights-out pitching by Kenna Davis, Katherine Legg Maddie Mersch and Ayako Kiener. Stellar defense was provided in the outfield by a committee of Ashley Roben, Patricia Penalver, and Kamryn Beene. Katie Ohno was a viral wall holding up third base while Kayla Chang and Cynthia Beall teamed up as a 1-2 punch at shortstop and second base. Taylor Andolsek was flashing some nifty glove work at first while Kaitlyn Cassidy was steadfast at catcher for our flame throwers.

This tournament win was the first championship for an Alameda 8U Blaze team.

The 8U Blaze team hopes to continue this weekend by wrapping up the summer travel season with another victory at the Hot Bats Tournament this weekend in Livermore.
