Alameda Little League Game Reports through April 24

Looks like rain today, but we shall see.

With nearly one thousand players this year, Alameda Little League is an Island institution. When the season kicked off on March 12, Alameda Patch contributor Jesse Sternburg caught the . (Take a peek, if you have a player he or she might well be in there.)

Pontar Real Estate Management Rays 5, Emerald Packaging Rockies 4: Brannen Elshire went 2-2 with three runs scored, including the winning run on a walk-off shot to left center by Jacob Smith in the bottom of the 8th inning, to lead the Rays to a comeback win over a gritty Rockies’ squad on April 21.  Francisco Pedraza pitched 4 innings of hitless ball, striking out 9, to earn the win in relief of Devin Noonan and Jacob Smith. Nate Low added two hits to pace the Rays’ offense. 

Wesley Cheung started for the Rockies and pitched four quality innings, helping his own cause with an rbi triple and two runs scored.  Jarod Kathman pitched well in relief, holding the Rays to one run, and lined a two-run double in a comeback fifth inning to give the Rockies’ their second lead.

Alameda Firefighters Local 689 Angels 2, Emerald Packaging, Inc. Rockies 0: On April 16, the Angels' Joseph Rockwell pitched a shutout, striking out 11 and walking no one.  The Angels’ Bryan Woo had the Angels only hit of the game, and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch; Devin Nash stole home right behind him. Nash also threw out a runner trying to steal and Gavin Richardson had a nice catch in right field to help preserve the shutout. 

The Rockies’ Wesley Cheung also pitched a complete game, striking out the first 12 batters he faced.  Cheung finished the game with 14 strikeouts and added a triple.  Kai Schneidegers laid down a nice bunt single, and Jacob Hugger also had a hit and a sacrifice to lead the Rockies’ attack.

Alameda Firefighters Local 689 Angels 6, European Wax Center A's 5: On April 14, the Angels' Bryan Woo pitched 5 effective innings, allowing only 2 earned runs; he also went 3 for 4 at the plate with a pair of triples and 3 RBI, driving in the tying runs in extra innings and coming around to score the winning run.  Josh Guerrero and Abraham Saikley each scored a pair of runs, and Saikley pitched the last two innings for the win. Cody Lim also had a good defensive game with a couple of nice catches in left field.  The A's Cameron Yuen had given his team a lead earlier in the game with a two-run homer over the center field wall.  The A's Nathan Wong also had 3 hits and had given the A's the lead in the top of the 7th, 5-3 with a 2 RBI triple.  Yishan McNabb pitched effectively into the 6th inning and had a pair of hits.

Harvest Food Products Storm 8, Choit Robles Architecture LLP Riverdogs 7:  On Friday April 22, Maxwell Onaga doubled in the 2nd to bring in 2 RBIs. Sophie Nilsson singled in the 4th, and later earned her at bat by stealing home. L.J. Rose earned two strikeouts pitching. 

The Storm's Jacob McNamee caught 4 fly balls, and 1 line drive defensively.  Miles Smith singled in the 2nd.  Torin Martin singled in the 3rd, stealing 2nd and 3rd.  Later, Kobe Kiener doubled in the 3rd.

McGee’s Bar & Grill Lugnuts  11, Fruitti Yogi Muckdogs 10: Tanner Roizen, Justin Wong and Aiden Dudley went 3 for 3 as the Lugnuts held on to win on April 21. Roizen, Wong, Kory Choy, and Hunter Beals made timely plays in the field.   For the Muckdogs, Justin Odom,  Jerick Griego, and Pete Celaya each hit a double and a single while Sebastian Hurtubic  had 3 hits.  Odom combined with Jacob Price for some big outs while Dima Gilchrist snagged a line drive to first.

Wiley Price & Radulovich, LLP’s Raptors 8 and  Nielsen Electric Sand Gnats 7: The Sand Gnats Adam Hoepker caught a towering fly ball as shortstop, Justin Wong made great defensive plays as pitcher and Alex Camarena displayed amazing hitting. The Raptors Max Hernandez had 2 doubles at bat and caught 2 fly balls. Also hitting well for the Raptors were Becca Lagerwey, Vido Ramos, Evan Hesse and Nicholas Chan.

MXL Commercial Construction Bats 14, Wiley Price & Radulovich, LLP’s Raptors 8:  The Bats’ Zachary Albers got an out on 3rd in the 1st while Will Roberts made a stunning play on 1st in the 3rd. Gleicher and Joe Loughran both hit doubles. The Raptors Nicholas Chan hit doubles in the 1st and 4th. In the 3rd inning Shamar Cook got runner out on 3rd, Ian Ramos and Max Hernandez got 2 runners out on 1st.  Evan Hesse hit a double in the 4th.

Vicki Wang, DDS Orthodontic Care Center IronBirds 11, AlamedaOpenHouse.com Volcanoes 7: The victorious IronBirds saw Scott Kelly and Malachi Francois turn in great defensive plays. Sam Yep had two great catches at first base to end the game and JP Chiu recorded an RBI Single. For the Volcanoes, Will Ahrens, Chris Schneider and Chalita Chahini all recorded RBIs. Quinn Dooley caught two consecutive pop flies at the pitcher position

MXL Commercial Construction Bats 21, Encinal Market BlueClaws 8: On April 18 for the Bats, brothers Donovan and Brandon Gross had multiple RBI’s while Adrian Yatsko added strong defensive play in the infield.   BlueClaws second baseman Shane Connolly fielded several ground balls and tagged out two runners. Outfielders Eli Siltanen and Dylan Williams were responsible for two back to back fielding stops.
