Alameda Little League Game Reports Through May 1

Sunny, sunny days. And it's always a good time for a hotdog from the snack shack, right?

Below are the Alameda Little League reports that were submitted from last week's games.

Pontar Real Estate Management Rays, 12 vs. Alameda Firefighters Local 689 Angels, 9: It took a full ten innings to decide this battle between the Angels and Rays, as the Angels battled back from deficits of 7-1 and 9-3 to knot the game at nine in the sixth inning. After several scoring threats from both sides in extra innings, and great pitching from Abraham Saikley of the Angels and Francisco Pedraza of the Rays, the Rays broke through in the tenth inning on an RBI double by Jacob Smith, and an RBI triple by Pedraza. Isaac DeLao retired the Angels in the bottom of the 10th to earn his second save of the season. 

For the Rays, Nate Low went 5-6, and Devin Noonan added four hits to pace the offense, with Pedraza adding a two-run homer over the batting cages in right center to give the Rays an early lead. Noonan pitched solidly through three innings, relieved by Grant Bevan in the fourth, with Pedraza going a full 6 innings in relief. For the Angels, Bryan Woo and Saikley kept the Rays at bay, and Woo and Conor Neal sparked a late rally with clutch hits to send the game into extra innings.

Pontar Real Estate Management Rays, 5 vs. Neptune Beach Pearl Giants, 3: Nathan Low’s 3-run triple in the fifth inning highlighted a late Rays’ rally that carried them to a win over the Giants. Francisco Pedraza and Jacob Smith pitched well for the Rays, with Smith thwarting a late Giants’ rally to secure the win.

Hunter Hennigh and Colin Karch pitched well for the Giants, with Karch and Davis Tansey lining key RBI hits to rally the Giants in the fourth inning.

AA

Harvest Food Products Storm, 11 vs. Alameda Neuropsych Redwings, 4: Solid hits contributed by Thomas Goodman, Sean Cook, Liam Johnson Sandoval and Cameron Thomas  for the Redwings on April 20. Paul Lynch's aggressive base running sparked the offense and key defensive plays by Ben Byers and game ball recipient Griffin Calibach kept the game within reach.

The Storm were led by Orion Ho who had a double and triple and Nicholas Stermer who collected his first hit of the season. Fine defensive plays were made by Stefan Schneider, Jacob McNamee, and Nicholas Funchess. Aeneas Pardo faced eight batters, giving up no runs, and accomplished a rare AA feat as catcher - throwing a runner out attempting to steal second base. 

Tomatina Hot Rods, 11 vs. Stay Tuned Entertainment Mud Hens, 7:
On April 28, the Hot Rods held off a late-inning Mud Hens' surge to win 11-7 on Thursday. Mud Hens' pitcher Ronald Robertson struck out four and allowed just one run. Teammate Eugene Gardner reached base twice and scored once, while Daniel Wolfe reached base three times and scored once.

The Hot Rods' hitting was led by Jonathan Atasses, Jackson Ade, and Eli Ottaviano, who all hit doubles, while Nicholas Ferry tripled. Ferry also struck out two in relief to secure the win.

Single A

Wiley Price & Radulovich, LLP  Raptors, 12 vs. UPS Store’s Owls, 5: Raptors showed defense with Becca Legerwey making outs in the 2nd and 6th, Shamar Cook and Evan Hesse teamed up for an out on 2nd in the 6th. Evan Hesse, Nicholas Chow, Riley McCarter, Becca Legerwey and Justin Leung scored in the 5th. The Owlz tried to fight back by getting 5 runs in the 5th.  Brandon Lim went 3-3 and Landon Marsh and Tommy Igo went 2-2.  Nat Remmers, Gavin  Ruport, Derek Balaian, Nathan Connick, and Daylan Tanner all got hits.

Encinal Market Blue Claws,13 vs. AlamedaOpenHouse.com Volcanoes, 11: On April 30, for the BlueClaws, James Glaviano demonstrated strong defensive skills in the outfield. Joseph Donovan continued his fielding streak as catcher and 3rd baseman. Ezra Frary continued his hitting streak and got to second base twice, and Brad Healy got a late inning hit. For the Volcanoes, Zachary Screechfield recorded 4 put outs and an assist at short stop along with 3 RBIs. Chalita Chahine hit a ground rule double and also recorded 3 RBIs. Jameson Hoy went 2 for 2 scoring 2 runs along with a sacrifice RBI. 

El Caballo Wraps Rattlers, 25  vs. The UPS Store Owlz, 5: It was a hot day for the Rattlers on April 16. For the Owlz, Daylan Tanner was 3-3, Landon Marsh and Gabe Rubio were 2-2, and Tommy Igo and Brandon Lim both got hits.The Owlz struggled to cross the plate, where most of their runs in the 3rd inning.

For the Rattlers, Aaron Garcia was 6-6 with 6 RBIs and Nick Yajko was 5-5 with 3 doubles and 5 RBIs while the top six batters were 26-29 to lead the Rattler offense. In the field, Felix Garcia's quick outfield relays held runners to singles and Max Ponssa's infield work kept base runners from scoring. 

Baskin Robins Ice Cream Store at Alameda Scrappers, 3 vs. The UPS Store Owlz, 6: The Owlz squeaked by on April 15 as Derek Balaian went 3-3, Daylan Tanner, Mikey McNamee, Brandon Lim went 2-2, and Landon Marsh, Tommy Igo, Gavin Ruport, Nat Remmers, Lucus Christ, and Landon Marsh all got hits.

The Scappers threatened all game long as Kyle Wonzen, Colin Wemmen, Tanner McKenzie, Lukas Mann, and James Freeman all went 2-2. Nolan Johnson, and Riley King all got hits.

Encinal Market BlueClaws, 6 vs. McGee's Bar & Grill Lugnuts, 4: On April 29, for the BlueClaws, Dylan Corona showed great sportsmanship and team spirit by staying with the team despite taking a ball to the nose. Sean Culberg-McClung served 5 innings as catcher, hit an RBI, and was the best bat boy of the game. Jordan Alva's powerful arm covered the outfield and he had an RBI. 

For the Lugnuts, Cole Emerson had an impressive RBI and double play. Joey Green hit a ball to the left field fence in the last inning. Eric Slez' blazing speed tied the game in the 4th inning.

McGee’s Bar & Grill Lugnuts, 11 vs. FruittiYogi Muckdogs, 10: Tanner Roizen, Justin Wong, and Aiden Dudley went 3 for 3 as the Lugnuts held on to win on April 21. Roizen, Wong, Kory Choy, and Hunter Beals made timely plays in the field. For the Muckdogs, Justin Odom,  Jerick Griego, and Pete Celaya each hit a double and a single while Sebastian Hurtubic  went 3for 3.  Odom combined with Jacob Price for some big outs while Dima Gilchrist snagged a line drive to first.

Farm Ball

Maureen Shandobil's Rockies vs. Gallagher and Lindsey Realtors’ Rays: Garrett Deatherage was awarded a game ball for making 3 great plays at shortstop. Matthew Lee & Christian Watkins & Avery Steuer & Cody Cunningham all played great defense and were responsible for quality catches. The Rockies hitting as always was a highlight, with Haileen Jamarillo getting a double - others with strong hitting were Nathan Jamarillo, Jason Johnston and the rest of the Rockies. 

T-Ball

Vater.com Giants vs. West Wind A’s: In the Battle of the Bay on May 1, the Giants showed off their hitting skills.  Eli Slez hit a seeing-eye grounder that reached the outfield, William Kelly knocked a base hit to center field, and Will Roizen hit a line drive up the middle. Defensively, Mikey Wilson had a great stop on a sharply hit comebacker to the mound.  For the A’s, Lucas Eglin and McKinley Elter hit line drives to right center field during the second inning, while Wesley Karp knocked a hard ground ball up the middle. Meanwhile, Hudson Taylor made two great defensive stops, one while at shortstop, the other on the right field line.
