Alameda Little League Game Summaries March 8 - March 9

Play Ball!

Alameda Little League opened its 2014 season with games the weekend of March 8-9. It was a beautiful weekend for baseball!

Alameda Natural Grocery Bees 10, Scolari's Good Eats Bats 2 - March 9th 
Kevin Ochoa led the Bees pitching staff by striking out six batters in succession. OB Van Wijk and John Marshall teamed up for a double play. A line drive hit to center field by lead off hitter Miles stretched out barehanded grab to make an out at first. On the offensive side, the Bats had clutch base Murphy plated two runners. For the Bats, Aaron Leung pitched for four strikeouts while Joey Fedor and Ahadu Zemenfes also had solid outings on the mound. Defensively, Jonah Hammond had a hits by Subby Wolff Urzua and Fionn Meagher.

Red Onion Rock Hounds 10, Jack's Restaurant and Bar Thunder 9 – March 9
For the Rock Hounds, Tyler Ray anchored the pitching staff by striking out 5 hitters while not allowing a hit. Matthew Tarvin, Hugh Saulsbury, and Nathan Jaramillo all added doubles to help the offense. Eight different players accounted for the 10 runs batted in. The Thunder were powered by Nicolas Araujo, who not only struck out six hitters in two efficient innings, but was also perfect at the plate going 2 for 2. James Burke and Sanjay Cordova also added two runs each.

A Division

Neptune Beach Pearl Blue Claws 9, Alameda Collision and Repair Lugnuts 7—March 8
Blue Claws Kyle Nguyen, Angus Olaes, Hudson Taylor, and James Alexander all hit doubles, while Ryan Liu and Emmanuel Ezirim both earned RBIs. Hudson Taylor had an unassisted double play at first base.

The Lugnuts' attack was led by Tyler Hampton and Leo Paredes with three hits apiece, including Paredes' RBI triple. Sandor Strong and Dylan Watt each chipped in two hits, and Ryan Hans' leadoff single was a key to the Lugnuts' rally in the sixth. John Mainguy was solid at first base, recording several putouts.

Claremont Behavioral Services Owlz 2, Pacifc Bay Electric Scrappers 1 – March 9
Scrappers Tom Whittock tripled and Dason Aguilera drove him home on an RBI single. Owlz Eli Slez singled and Zack Peterson-Golay hit an RBI double. Xavian Ramierez drove home the winning run. Josh Howard and Will Roizen played good defense.

El Caballo Wraps Aeros 8, King of Thai Noodle House Tincaps 17 - March 9
Aeros Yasser Ahmadzoya hit fly balls to left and centerfield advancing runners, Spencer Franklin held down runners at first base, and Finn Smith stretched base hits with fast running on the bases. For the Tincaps, leadoff hitter Ryan Wiley had 4 singles. Marcus Finch provided solid defense at pitcher, with Turner Smith keeping the plays close at first base.

Kelly Lux Insurance Iron Birds 13, Alameda Family Dentistry Grasshoppers 7 – March 9
The Ironbirds got hot hits from Aryan Panchal, Noah Klube, Kelvin Joiner, Jr., and Konstantin Stern, while Chris Nguyen and Max Martinez Lawrence made several outstanding plays and showed pop in their bats. Kyle Skuta and Jonas Clevenger made clutch hits with the bases loaded in the third, while Jon Jones showed hustle on the base-paths and saw a lot of action in left field as the Grasshoppers rallied late in the game. For the Grasshoppers offense, Maslin Couts and William Hester each had three hits including a double. Gregory Martinez and Milo Kochevar had strong defensive plays at 1st and 3rd base, respectively.
