Alameda U13 Girls Select Soccer Takes Home Trophy at Stockton Triad

The team went 3-0-1 at the Sept. 24 and 25 tournament.

The Alameda Islanders U13 girls soccer team took home the third place trophy from last weekend's Stockton Triad Tournament after finishing undefeated with three wins and a tie.

In their first game, the Islanders beat East Bay Eclipse 2-1, with goals from Francisca Chaparro and Daniela Lopez-Garcia.

In their second game, they found themselves down 0-1 at half time against a tough opponent, the Livermore Fusion, and had to reach down deep to tie the game, thanks to a volley by Alexandra Kirkman.

On Sunday, the Islanders again dominated and scored a 2-1 victory against a very physical Tracy Vipers team.

However, the most exciting game of the weekend was the consolation game against Galt United, when the Islanders fell behind 0-2 with less than 20 minutes left in the match.

With 10 minutes remaining, Coach Frank Fasano rearranged the team’s format, moving center back Isabel Welsh to a forward position, from where she scored.

The Islanders kept the pressure on, with strong defense from Mariela DeLeon, Grace Taylor and Hadley Klein.

With minutes to spare, after continuous pressure, Ellie Seiwald cracked a left-footed shot into the upper corner of the goal to tie the game 2-2.

At the end of regulation time, the game went to penalty kicks and the newest Islander, Jackie Smith, kept calm in goal, making a couple of tremendous saves.  With three well-executed kicks by Chaparro, Welsh and Taylor the Islanders once again celebrated victory.
