38TH ANNUAL ELKS HOOP SHOOT CITY FINALS

The 38th Annual Elks Hoop Shoot City Finals is set for Friday, January 7, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. at the Alameda Point Gym (1101 West Redline Avenue, Alameda Point).  This national event, conducted by Alameda Recreation and Park Department, is sponsored locally by the Alameda Elks Lodge #1015. Over 3 million youth from throughout the country enter the competition yearly.

This free competition was held at Bayport, Franklin, Krusi, Leydecker, Lincoln, Littlejohn, Longfellow, McKinley, Tillman, Washington and Woodstock Parks, St. Philip Neri School and the Teen Center.  This contest is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 13 years who attend a school or reside in the city of Alameda.

The contest consists of shooting free throws.  Each contestant has 25 opportunities to shoot at the hoop.  A child may compete as many times as he or she wishes.  The top three finalists in each age division (8-9 years; 10-11 years and 12-13 years) are eligible to represent their park at the City Finals.  The winners from the City Finals in each age division will continue on to represent the City of Alameda and the Alameda Elks at the District Shoot-Off scheduled for late January.
