57th Annual Swim Championships

The 57th Annual City Swim Championships will be held Friday-Sunday, August 12-14 at the Encinal Swim Center.  The Alameda Recreation and Park Department is sponsoring this year’s event in cooperation with the Alameda Island Aquatics and Ala-Gator swim teams.

Over the course of the weekend, there will be events for ages 6 and up. The Master’s division will take place on the evening of Friday, August 12. Youth age-group events will take place throughout the weekend. Spectators may watch their favorite swimmers for free. A two-day meet program will be available for a reasonable fee. A snack bar will also be available.

Five special awards will be presented during Sunday’s Awards Ceremony at 1:00 p.m. The Emma Hood Award, named in honor of the original employee of the Alameda Swim Center, goes to the most outstanding person enrolled in ARPD’s Aquatic Volunteer / Basic Lifesaving Program. The Ernest Poggi Award is presented to the most outstanding student enrolled in ARPD’s Lifeguard Training Course. The Lance Seely Award and the Sally Gallagher Award, go to the most outstanding male and female high school swimmers. The Frank Weeden Trophy goes to the most outstanding boy or girl age-group swimmer in Alameda.
