Bike Riding Event at Lincoln Middle School

Two students from Lincoln Middle School, John Dean and Calder Hartigan, recently qualified for prizes from Team Alameda by logging their bicycle miles for fun in May.

Their goal was to ride at least one hundred miles in May. Participation was light but enthusiastic in this first-time event sponsored by Team Alameda. 6th grader Calder Hartigan, completed 100.3 miles; 8th grader John Dean, came close with 80 miles. Each young cyclist was presented with a gift certificate to an Alameda bicycle shop. The event’s purpose was to encourage bike riding for fun. Students attending the lunchtime kickoff meeting suggested many riding opportunities, including transportation to and from school, riding the Alameda bike lanes, paths, and trails to exotic locations like Crab Cove and Alameda Point, and organized rides in Alameda and out of town with parents.
