After an intensely fought first half with the teams tied 3 to 3, and a brief time in the lead at 4-3, the Destroyers were left seeing Red as their opponents pulled ahead for a final score of 8-4. Anthony Layson, Jameson Hoy and Matthew Pustelnik’s aggressive defense blocked a number of potential goals, and turned the tide back on the attackers. Griffin Calibach and Ramit Guha continued a streak of strong performances, each scoring, while Ethan Kha, scores a deuce, personally delivering half the team’s score. Despite constant pressure, Liam Johnson-Sandoval did a great job at goalie in the second half.

The Flaming Cupcakes showed incredible resolve in battling back from an early 4-0 deficit. Sydney Watt got Alameda FC on the board with a goal just before halftime, and Selma Bagadi exploded for four second-half goals, with Marla Phoumivong blasting in her first-ever goal to finish the scoring. Meanwhile, the back line of Elise Luna, Alina Soto and Audrey Wismar shut down the Ducks, with goalie Sophia Seiwald denying several chances. With the goalie beaten, Watt volleyed away a shot from her goal line late in the game, and the Ducks seemed to know their goose was cooked.

U7 Spain vs. Portugal, 10/05/2012

Teams Spain and Portugal played a thrilling game.  Finn Little led La Furia Roja with two goals and outstanding defense, with Finn Walker scoring his first of the year.  Turner Smith scored for Portugal, but had a second shot denied by a strong save from Dylan Watt.  Liris Robles led Spain’s defense with relentless challenges of Portugal’s possession, and Albert Burmudez contributed excellent passing and earned the assist on one of Little’s goals.
