Participants in Girls Inc. of the Island City's Eureka! program, a summer intensive for middle school girls that focuses on math, science, technology and sports, will demonstrate their projects for the public Thursday.
The showcase, dubbed Eureka!Thon, is scheduled for Aug. 2, 1 to 3 p.m., at South Shore Center. Mayor Marie Gilmore will be a guest speaker at the event. Among the projects is a Rube Goldberg machine the girls created over the past four weeks.
Eureka! is a national, multi-year program for girls to explore career and post-secondary education options. Locally, girls from several alameda and Oakland schools participate. You may read more about the Alameda program in this article.
