Today is Summer's Second Spare the Air Day
Drive less, avoid hairspray and gas-powered lawn mowers, air quality officials urge.
Bay City News Service—Bay Area residents are encouraged to drive less and reduce energy usage as part of Tuesday's Spare the Air Day, the Bay Area Air Quality District announced Monday. The Spare the Air Day marks the second of the summer season and the first since June 16.
Driving less and cutting energy use is encouraged by the agency to reduce pollution levels, which can heighten health concerns when temperatures are high, the air district said.
In addition to using alternative transportation means, the air district is encouraging Bay Area residents to avoid using gas-powered leaf blowers or lawn mowers, lighter fluid on barbecues, and using aerosol spray cans and hairspray.
