Alameda Gridlock ... And a Solution

Gridlock Island Solution

I've been taught to never complain without having a solution. So please read on to hear both my complaint and my solution.

Traffic is backed up on Island Drive (nearly to Otis) every morning with drivers headed South from the main island and needing to turn right onto Robert Davey Jr. to Amelia Earhart and Bay Farm schools.

Many parents (like me) are simply needing to get past this conjestion and continue West down Robert Davey Jr. (to Bay Farm school in my case). I co-parent and my former husband lives next to the school. I love living on the main island and I can't imagine that will ever change. So I'm stuck!

Nearly every morning the Alameda Police are poaching drivers that make a wide right hand turn in order to get past this stopped lane of Amelia Earhart traffic. It's like shooting fish in a barrel! Instead of helping alleviate this traffic conjestion, the city is profiting off of this mess! I should also point out that this gridlock is only going to get worse. There's talk of grade expansions at Bay Farm Elementary (possibly all the way up to the 8th grade).

The city really needs to solve this congestion by installing two right hand turn lanes off of Island Dr. (and onto Robert Davey Jr.). The lane appears to be wide enough for two right hand turn lanes...

I suggest the following: we honor Alameda Police Officer Robert Davey Jr. once again (who was a fabulous officer and brutally murdered) by installing two right hand turn lanes off of Island Dr. and onto his memorial. Let's make this happen!
