Alameda Lights Up Its Christmas Tree Saturday

This weekend offers a variety of holiday events, including boutiques, a community concert, wonderful decorations on Christmas Tree Lane and a quiet retreat. Plus Thursday, Dec. 5, is the last day to sign up for Breakfast with Santa.

Alameda will light up its municipal Christmas tree Saturday at City Hall, 2265 Santa Clara Ave., with entertainment starting t 4:30 p.m. and the lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m.

Entertainment will include performances by the Alameda Community Band, the Oakland Youth Chorus, the city's own Dancing Christmas Trees and The Mistle Tones. Santa will make a visit, and there will be candy canes for children.

The event will be held rain or shine, according to the Alameda Recreation Department.

Christmas Tree Lane in the 3200 block of Thompson Avenue is in full swing evening through December. Check out the Facebook page for this favorite local tradition for the daily schedule.

—Friday, Dec. 6, Holiday Hangout #1, an affordable crafts boutique at Redux Studios.

—Friday, Dec. 6, the Alameda Community Band and Chorus presents Hallelujah Holiday, complete with the Tap Dancing Christmas Trees and a Hallelujah Chorus sing-along.

—Saturday, Dec. 7, Island Cat Resources & Adoption presents its annual holiday boutique

—Saturday, Dec. 7, Christ Episcopal Church offers Waiting with Mary — an Advent Quiet Day Retreat.
