Vote if You Want a Brewery!

Hi Alameda, it’s been a little while since I’ve posted.  We’ve been heads down and working on a Spotmojo iPhone app, but that’s done and we’re getting back into business.  Anyhow, I have some great news for you, if you’re a beer lover.  Alameda Island Brewing Company is hoping to be opening at PV Square!

However, in about a week they’ll be at City Hall for a public hearing where they hope to be granted their use permits.  Spotmojo has a new feature where a business can “propose their concept” and the community can support it by voting for it.  We set up one of these pages for Alameda Island Brewing Co.  If you want them to come to Alameda, please vote here!  And spread the word to all your beer loving friends in or around Alameda.

Alameda Island Brewing Company will be a brewing facility, tasting room, and will serve food from eateries from Marketplace like Baron’s EATS, East End Pizza, Greens & Grains, and Sushi King.  The experience should be no different as if the food was made in their own kitchen.  There will be 10-15 tables to sit around 60 people so it’ll have a dining area just like a restaurant.

Now that I got the important stuff taken care of, let me fill you in on some of the backstory.

If you’ve been reading Patch for at least a year, you may remember my first Patch article was about the PV Square building on Park Street and Buena Vista.  There was a really lively discussion on that Patch article and on Spotmojo.  One of the top suggestions was for a brewpub as well as salads, Korean, deli, and many others.

I sent the results to Bill Phua, the developer of PV Square, and he was actually in talks with Alameda Island around that time.  However, the brewery wasn’t able to get financing and the deal died momentarily.  However, after looking at the suggestions many of you submitted on Spotmojo, it helped Bill realize that this venture could be a success and he decided to step in and help with financing.

This is great news for Alameda and for Spotmojo.  It proves your voices do matter and of course I was very happy that Spotmojo is helping to bring a brewery to Alameda.

But we’re not at the end of the road yet.  In addition to the county beverage license they’ll actually need a couple more at the state and federal level.  So please support them by voting on their Spotmojo page.

And for those who suggested other ideas for Alameda.  Many of the retail property owners in Alameda see this data and do try to use it.  And Spotmojo will be ramping up efforts to help connect people looking to start a business with people who want them.  We might have another one soon, so stay tuned.

Here's Alameda Island Brewing's Spotmojo page one more time:

Please vote & spread the word.  We only have a week.  (Sorry, I just heard about this last Friday).
