The Alameda Community Learning Center is a public charter school housed at Encinal High School and serving students from grades 6 to 12. The ACLC was established in 1992 in partnership with Arthur Anderson Consulting. In 1997, it became a charter school and now serves approximately 250 students. The ACLC's aim is to "create a dynamic learning community by embodying the best practices of teaching and learning in a non-competitive manner that supports individuals to actively discover their own potential, recognize their own value and worth and practice responsibility to the community." At the ACLC, teachers are called facilitators and students are called learners. Learners gain admittance to the award-winning school through a lottery.
