The Alameda Food Bank has been combating hunger in Alameda since 1977. This nonprofit charitable organization is funded by local donations and civic organizations, like the Clara Barton Society and operated by 100 tireless volunteers. Every first Saturday and third Wednesday of the month, it opens the doors of its warehouse location (1050 West Ranger Ave.). The Food Bank estimates that its efforts help 5,300 people every year get the groceries and food they need.
