From the 1880s to the start of World War II, Crown Beach was widely well known as an amusement center, complete with amusement rides, balloon ascents and bathing spas. Although the carnival attractions are no more, the beach persists.  Special features include trails along the water, a teeming bird life, dog park, large grassy fields and numerous picnic locations with tables, benches and grills. (Picnic reservations can be made by calling 1-888-EBPARKS.) Other popular activities include group walks, cycling, dog walking, picnicking, fishing, boating, board sports and light swimming. Crown Beach is currently popular for its annual Sand Castle and Sand Sculpture Contest, which takes place in June and open to all ages.
