Funded primarily by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and with a mission to help provide "quality, affordable and safe housing," the City of Alameda Housing Authority owns and manages 12 housing complexes and seven condominiums for very-low and low-income residents, including several specifically for senior citizens. As of 2010, the Authority provides more than 550 families with housing and assists approximately 1,600 more families through the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. The Housing Authority does not provide emergency housing assistance.
