3.0 Earthquake Jolts East Bay

A 3.0 magnitude earthquake centered between Berkeley and Orinda was recorded at 9:26 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The epicenter of the temblor was located along the Hayward Fault at a depth of 7 kilometers (4.6 miles) below the surface in the western part of the park, 1.5 miles northeast of the UC Berkeley main campus, according to latitude and longitude coordinates provided by the USGS.

The quake was initially reported as 3.1 magnitude but was downgraded to 3.0 early this morning.
