Police dogs from all over the state will be in Alameda on Saturday for the 1st Annual Alameda/San Leandro Police K-9 Competition. K-9 units representing more than two dozen police and sheriff’s departments will be showing off their skills and teamwork as they vie for the Top Dog and Chief’s trophies.

The event is free and open to the public.

Also on hand will be Gavin Buchanan, a five-year-old from Benicia who donated $100 he had saved for a skateboard to a non-profit that buys bullet-proof vests for police dogs.
