Firefighters rescued a resident from the balcony of a burning apartment building in Alameda this morning, according to Alameda Fire Department officials.

The fire was reported at 2:47 a.m. at a four-unit two-story apartment building at 3272 Briggs Ave., off Fernside Boulevard near Lincoln Park, AFD Capt. James Colburn said.

All four units have been evacuated and at least one person was rescued by firefighters from a balcony, Fire Chief Michael D'Orazi said.

Firefighters have pulled out of the building and are fighting the fire defensively, D'Orazi said shortly before 4 a.m.

The fire was still burning at 4:50 a.m., Colburn said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
