Mean vs. Green: Burglar Steals from Local Manufacturer of Disaster Housing

More Than $40,000 worth of tools ad equipment were stolen from the company.

A burglar has stolen about $47,000 worth of tools and equipment from an Alameda firm that manufactures emergency housing for disaster victims, an Alameda Police Department spokesperson said.

Lt. Jill Ottaviano said staff at Green Horizon Global, Inc., 1501 Buena Vista Ave., reported the theft on Monday, Sept. 23. The materials disappeared sometime during the previous five days, she said.

Green Horizon Global uses a patented building system to make a variety of on-demand housing and commercial structures, according to the company's website.

Those include several types of emergency shelters for displaced disaster victims, the website says.

The company calls itself "one of the greenest plants in the manufacturing industry."

"We source the majority of our materials locally trying to keep our carbon foot print to a minimum," the website says.

Company headquarters are in San Francisco.
