Police Log: Thefts Include Potted Plant, Tricycle and 'Unattended' Make-Up

Notable incidents encountered in Alameda July 20 to 24.


Wednesday, July 24

  • Change stealer. A male, 46, was arrested at 1:48 a.m. after he was caught with quarters he stole from a laundry room's washing machines on San Antonio Avenue. The suspect also displayed symptoms of being under the influence of a stimulant.
  • No making this up. A victim reported the theft of an "unattended make-up bag" 2:30 p.m. at Lincoln Avenue and Fifth Street.
Tuesday, July 23
  • Two Pearl Street car-break-ins. Suspects reportedly broke into two vehicles on the 1300 and 1400 blocks of Pearl Street. The cases were reported at 7:20 a.m. and 8:13 a.m. Theft from a vehicle was also logged at 8:48 a.m. on Versailles Avenue.
  • Two women, 33 and 26, were arrested after a traffic stop for possessing burglary tools and other charges. One also gave a false name and had no driver's license, while the other had a meth pipe and rock cocaine. 
Monday, July 22
  • A residential burglary was reported at 8:52 a.m. on the 1600 block of Eighth Street; suspects also took the homeowner's car.
  • Planted evidence. Someone reportedly stole a potted plant from the front porch of a home on the 1600 block of Morton Street.
Sunday, July 21
  • Tricycle theft. An unknown suspect entered a yard on the 2200 block of San Antonio Avenue and stole a tricycle and other bike accessories. Incident reported at 12:27 p.m.
  • Residential burglary reported 4:01 p.m. along the 1300 block of St. Charles Street. The intruder entered through an open window and fled without taking anything.
  • Arrestee kicks out cop car window. A male, 25, was arrested at 1:25 a.m. along 2300 Blanding Avenue for alleged public intoxication, then kicked out the rear window of a patrol car while being transported to jail, which added vandalism to his charges.
Saturday, July 20
  • Vehicles reported stolen: 4:45 a.m. on the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue; 6:10 p.m. on the 1800 block of Sherman Street.
  • Front porch theft. Someone stole a package from a home along 400 Bryant Avenue. Crime reported at 8:05 p.m.
  • A 37-year-old woman was arrested for suspected driving under the influence and controlled-substance possession at 9:48 p.m. after a vehicle collision at Santa Clara Avenue and Mozart Street. She displayed signs of alcohol intoxication, refused to take filed sobriety tests, and was found with two pill bottles in her handbag.
