Police Log: Bank Stick-Up; Missing, Loaded Gun; 'Ambitious' Identity Thief

Man explains how he 'found' bag of jewelry, and more from July 30 to Aug. 4

Sunday, Aug. 4

  • Uh-oh, gun gone. A fanny pack containing a loaded handgun and an extra magazine of ammunition was reported lost at 11:08 a.m. on the 3000 block of Main Street. 
  • Copper stolen. A business along 1100 West Redline Avenue reported a  burglary at 11:40 p.m. where a suspect, or suspects, broke a window to get into the building and steal copper wiring. 
Saturday, Aug. 3
  • Suspected drunken vandal. A male, 26, was arrested for suspicion of public intoxication and vandalism at 1 a.m. on Central Avenue and Chestnut Street after displaying signs of alcohol intoxication and being identified by a witness as the one responsible for causing damage to vehicles.
  • Wanted by the FBI and found in Alameda. A male 34, was arrested for an outstanding warrant at 5:11 p.m. along 300 Park Street after being identified as being wanted by the FBI for being in possession of firearms and narcotics. 
  • Armed robbery at Webster bank. A bank on the 1500 block of Webster Street reported being held up at gunpoint at 9:13 a.m. by two suspects brandishing firearms. The pair stole cash and fled by vehicle. Story here.
Friday, Aug. 2
  • Sunroof access. A car burglar broke the sunroof of a vehicle on the 50 block of  Mecartney Road to steal a backpack and stethoscope.
  • Drug use. A 41-year-old male was arrested at 3:30 p.m. on the 2200 block of Buena Vista Avenue after displaying signs of being under the influence of a stimulant and failing the seven-step, drug-abuse recognition evaluation.
Thursday, Aug. 1
  • Grand theft of fence. Several panels of chain-link fencing were stolen from a fenced-in lot on the 200 block of Central Avenue.
  • Auto theft. A vehicle was reported stolen at 12:24 p.m. from 2200 Southshore Center.
  • Park Street intoxication arrests. A male, 18, was arrested at 6:57 p.m. along 1300 Park Street after displaying signs of alcohol intoxication. He also had an outstanding warrant.  At 2:30 a.m. also along 1300 Park Street, a female, 37, was arrested after she was found stumbling on the sidewalk, barely able to stand. 
Wednesday, July 31
  • Traffic stop leads to more charges. A 24-year-old motorist stopped at 6:30 p.m. for a driving infraction on Taylor Avenue was subsequently arrested after police spotted a suspected hydrocodone pill in plain sight as the man handed his license to officers. He was also cited for driving on a suspended license. 
  • Identity snatcher goes for job and loan. Identity theft was reported from an individual on Buena Vista Avenue who learned their personal-identification information was used by an unknown suspect to obtain employment and apply for a home loan.
Tuesday, July 30
  • Finders-keepers excuse. A well-known probationer, 50, was arrested along Park Street at 10 p.m. after a probation search turned up a bag filled with women's jewelry. He said he found the loot in a residential driveway, but made no attempt to locate the owner.
  • Auto theft. A vehicle was reported stolen at 9 p.m. along 2200 Southshore Center.
  • Bicycle thief. A bike was reported stolen at 11:30 a.m. from a garage left open on the 1000 block of Fontana Drive.
