Police Log: Mysterious Marijuana in the Mail, Park Street Robbery Attempt, Injury Accidents

Also: a half dozen vehicles were stolen in a single day.

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log . Nov. 7-8. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

THURSDAY, NOV. 7

Injury accident — A male pedestrian was critically injured in an accident on Webster Street. See "Two Pedestrians in Critical Condition After Pair of Accidents" for details.

Auto thefts — Vehicles were reported stolen from the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue, the 400 and 500 blocks of Buena Vista Avenue, the corner of Oak Street and San Jose Avenue, the 400 block of Tideway Drive and the 1500 block of Pacific Avenue.

Bike theft — A bicycle was stolen from a patio in the 1300 block of High Street.

Auto break-ins — Someone removed the lock from the rear passenger door of a vehicle parked at the Marina Village Inn and stole personal items. Other vehicle burglaries and thefts from vehicles were reported in the 2800 block of Adams Street, the 1900 block of Webster Street, the 2700 block of San Jose Avenue and the 1100 block of Mound Street.

Bicycle found — A bike was found abandoned in bushes on Fernside Boulevard.

Marijuana mystery — A package containing two pounds of marijuana was delivered to a business on Lincoln Avenue, which was listed as the return address on a U.S. Postal Service sticker. "No one at the business knows who the marijuana belongs to," according to Alameda police.

DUI arrest — A 40-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a traffic accident near the corner of Broadway and Santa Clara Avenue a little before 10 p.m.

FRIDAY, NOV. 8

Attempted robbery — Two people driving in the 1400 block of Park Street just after midnight were apparently temporarily stopped when they were accosted by a robber who reached into the vehicle with a handgun and demanded their belongings. The driver stepped on the gas and drove away, leaving the would-be robber behind.

Vehicle recoveries — Police located vehicles that had been stolen in Oakland, Concord and the Fruitvale BART station.

Stolen car — An auto was reported stolen from the 100 block of Gainsborough Court.

Shoplifting arrest — A 64-year-old woman was placed under citizen's arrest by a store employee after she reportedly stole items from the business. Police said the woman had at least three prior convictions for theft.

DUI arrest — A 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, felony hit-and-run and resisting arrest after his vehicle struck and injured a bicyclist in the 1800 block of Grand Street about 3 p.m., police said. The man tried to flee the accident scene on foot, they said. In a second DUI incident, a 41-year-old woman was arrested after a traffic stop on Webster Street.
