Police Log: Missing Man's Body Found at Grand Marina, Residential Burglars Arrested, Rape and Indecent Exposure at the Beach

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log from May 20 to 22. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Wednesday, May 22

  • 8:25 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 900 block of Taylor Avenue. 
  • 9:15 a.m.: A missing person report was filed on Cruiser Lane. The missing person, a 73-year-old Alameda man left home and did not return. He did not leave a note as to where he was going or when he would return. He suffers from depression and other medical conditions. His body was later found floating in the water by the Grand Street Boat Ramp. Read the complete report by Alameda Patch here.
  • 10:40 a.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 3200 block of Calhoun Street. A suspect took a victim's name and social security number in an attempt to obtain credit cards.
  • 12:03 p.m.: Grand theft was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Center. A suspect stole a bicycle and fled.
  • 1:39 p.m.: Grand theft was reported on the 2100 block of Otis Drive. Two suspects convinced a victim to withdraw cash and give it to them in exchange for more cash. Suspects tricked victim and fled with the cash.
  • 2:40 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 3200 block of Briggs Avenue. A suspect took a victim's personal information by unknown means and used them to get medical treatment.
  • 3:38 p.m.: Arson was reported on the 300 block of Pacific Avenue. Unknown suspects lit the contents of a recycling container on fire.
  • 3:19 p.m.: Fraud was reported on the 2300 block of Lincoln Avenue.
    A suspect obtained money from a victim in exchange for a fraudulent lotto ticket.
  • 6:49 p.m.: A 40-year-old man was arrested on the 300 block of A Avenue for weapons. He was contacted as a suspicious person in his vehicle. During a consent search of his vehicle, a collapsible baton was located under the driver's seat.
  • 9:25 p.m.: Three suspects were arrested for a residential burglary on Moseley Avenue. They were identified as those responsible for breaking into unoccupied houses and vandalizing property. They admitted to entering the houses. One of the suspects was a 18-year-old man.
  • 10:32 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 2200 block of Otis Drive.
Tuesday, May 21
  • 3:18 a.m.: A narcotics arrest was made on the 2800 block of Ford Street.
    The arrested was contacted as the driver on a traffic enforcement stop. The arrested displayed objective signs of being under the influence of a CNS stimulant. During an inventory search of the vehicle, suspected methamphetamine, ammunition, cash and items associated with narcotics sales were located. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to Santa Rita Jail.
  • 7:10 a.m.: A burglary vehicle was reported on the 2900 block of Marina Drive. A suspect took a victim's tools.
  • 1:57 p.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 500 block of Windriver Way. A suspect entered two open offices and stole cell phones from victim's desks. The suspect took off with the loss.
  • 4:57 p.m.: Indecent exposure was reported at Shoreline Drive. A victim said she saw a suspect masturbating while at the beach.
  • 5:18 p.m.: Shoplifting was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Center. A suspect took clothing from the business in his backpack without paying for the items. He was placed under citizen's arrest by store security.
  • 5:50 p.m.: Forgery was reported on the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue. A suspect cashed an altered check at a business.
  • 6:53 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 300 block of Central Avenue.
Monday, May 20
  • 2:54 a.m.: Battery was reported on Shoreline Drive. A suspect assaulted a victim during a heated argument causing serious bodily injuries. Suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. Victim was treated at Alameda Hospital for her injuries.
  • 8:03 a.m.: Forgery was reported on the 1800 block of 3rd Street.
    Suspect stopped for violation while driving a motor vehicle and found to be in possession of two fake California Drivers licenses.
  • 9:57 a.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 1700 block of Shoreline Drive. Suspect used victim's debit card information to make unauthorized online purchases.
  • 10:45 a.m.: Rape was reported on Buena Vista Avenue.
  • 2:38 p.m.: Shoplifting was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Avenue. Suspect walked out of store without paying for items and was placed under citizen's arrest.
  • 2:17 p.m.: Burglary was reported at 1 Singleton Avenue. Unknown suspect cut storage padlock and removed unknown items from storage locker.
  • 5:56 p.m.: Shoplifting was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Center. Suspect stole shoes from business and was placed under citizen's arrest. Suspect also had several outstanding warrants and was arrested.
  • 11:16 p.m.: Arson was reported on the 2700 block of Fernside Boulevard. Suspects set fire to a mattress and computer outside victim's residence.
